      The Frog's Blog

Hi friends. This blog is a labor of love and I want to continue writing every day for a long time to come. But I need a little help. The fees to maintain this website are getting costly for a little frog. If you enjoy reading my blogs, will you please donate a dollar or two, or whatever you can, to help me keep this site (and blog) up and running? I'm on PayPal at irwinquagmirewart@gmail.com. Thank you!

By now, most everyone knows that Earth Day is celebrated in April every year. But did you know that there are many, other important days in April that we may want to celebrate, too? Today I will give you a list of the dates that, to me, deserve to be recognized, as well.

April 2nd - National Ferret Day (My apologies to all the ferrets, and their owners, for not mentioning this day earlier)
April 9th - If you're in Iowa, tomorrow, the Reiman Gardens at Iowa State University celebrate the Day of Insects. They offer all kinds of activities that help us appreciate bugs and insects.
April 10th - National Farm Animal Day We owe these critters alot. Enough said.
April 11th - National Pet Day I know that humans love their pets, but did you know that there is a special day set aside to honor them? Pretty cool.
April 14th - National Dolphin Day These creatures are so smart and amazing. I'm so glad that they have a day for us to clebrate their gift to the world.
April 17th - National Bat Appreciation Day These guys get a bad rap most of the time some let's give them a little batty love on the 17th.
April 21st - National Yellow Bat Day I'm not sure why these colorful fellows have a different day but, none-the-less, they do. So let's recognize the yellow bats!
April 22nd - International Mother Earth Day I'm so happy that this day is recognized globally. Every day needs to be Earth Day, but on this date, let's show her extra appreciation and kindness.
April 23rd - National Lost Dog Awareness Day Ok, dog owners, micro-chipping is common these days and pretty cheap. If you haven't already done so, please get your dog chipped so he/she can be found and returned to you, should they ever get lost.
April 24th - National Pet Parents Day I'm pretty excited about this day. There's a Mother's and Father's Day, and a Grandparents Day...now there's a day to recognize all you humans who do such an awesome job of caring for us critters. Bravo! And thanks.
April 24th is also World Day for Laboratory Animals I'm not sure why there are still animals being used in laboratories, but there are. And as long as humans use these critters to experiment and test on, lets remember them with love and ask that they be treated with compassion and the dignity they so deserve.
April 26th - There are several, great reasons to celebrate this day. National Kids 'n Pets Day,  National Audubon Day and, my favorite, Help A Horse Day. This is a day set aside to recognize the growing number of homeless horses and to praise the humans who so lovingly care for them. Way to go guys, and many thanks!
April 30th - I saved the best for last...but I am obviously biased. This day is International Save the Frogs Day. Frogs are dying off in huge (and scary) numbers. This awesome group, and others like them, are focusing their attentions and efforts on helping frogs survive. I just don't have words to express my gratitude for these selfless humans who work diligently, day in and day out, raising money and funding research to help my brothern in need. I would hate to think of this planet without us beautiful, lovable, and necessay creatures. Want to help? (And I encourage you to do so) Then please check out the many frogs groups online that need your support. April 30th is also Adopt a Shelter Pet Day I'd be remiss in my duties as an animal welfare advocate if I didn't say a HUGE thank you to all the animals shelters ou there for housing, loving, and caring for the many abused and unwated animals out here. If you're looking to adopt a pet, PLEASE think about adopting a shelter pet. Even if you want a specific breed of dog, many groups specialize in rescuing these breeds and these dogs need a new and forever home. Adopting a dog or cat from a shelter helps to cut down on puppie and kitten mills where the aniamls are treated poorly and are only kept alive for breeding purposes. Not ready to adopt? Then you might consider volunteering at a shelter. They always need extra hands, especially this time of year.

I've given you pleanty reasons to celebrate this month. Which ones will will you choose?
