Living a creative life allows the exploration of imagination. Each of us, frog and human alike, have an innate creative self just waiting to burst forth. That doesn't mean we all to to be a master sculptor or write a new opera or even paint a picture. By definition, the verb create means to bring into being. I love this definition! When we create, whatever we create, we're bringing something into being that didn't exist before. We are giving the world a part of ourselves. Creativity doesn't have to be linked to art, either. Creativity can be anything you want it to be; a new solution to an old problem, a design for a product that will assist people in their daily lives, or it can be updating a old family recipe...giving it your own special twist. Heck, even doing chores can be can become creative if you do it in a new and innovative way.
It can be said that living creatively means living in a way that rings to your soul. Taking it one step further, the act of creation is communication from one soul to another. Stepping into the Live Creative world includes a boundless sense of freedom; a place here rules fall to the wayside when creativity is unleashed. Artists and authors have long suspended reality in support of their work, to the satisfaction of their imagination. They live creative.
The best way to live creative is just to start doing it. This doesn't mean quitting your day job and throwing yourself completely into your new "work." A creative practice is best done regularly, in small parts, but often. Find ways to incorporate living creatively into every day. Want to write a book? Schedule an hour or two, every day, where you can begin writing that best-seller. Writing not your thing? No problem. Set aside time every day to do whatever it is you feel inspired to do...cook, compose music, finding a cure for cancer, or inventing that gizmo you know will revolutionize shoelace tying. If you can think it, you can do it! I believe this wholeheartedly. Living creative isn't about needing more time. It's about using the time you have in a more advantageous way. Living creative also means living your best potential and seeking to do your best in all your activities, whether you're the CEO of a multinational company or a simple taxi driver. Everything can be done with a creative spirit. To sum it up, a creative life is one where no experience is wasted and every life situation has artistic potential. Being exposed to the arts can inspire ideas both at home and in the workplace. Renewing a hobby reduces stress just by being pleasurable. Teaching someone else the craft nurtures personal expression and offers an opportunity to see the world through another’s eyes.
Alan Alda, one of my favorite actors and authors has this to say on the subject, "‘Be brave enough to live life creatively. The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. You can’t get there by bus, only by hard work and risk and by not quite knowing what you are doing. What you’ll discover will be wonderful. What you’ll discover will be yourself."
