Maintaining balance in life can be difficult. It's kind of like riding a bicycle; you can't lean too far to the left or too far to the right. You must find the exact spot in the middle, and maintain it, if you want to remain upright and move the bicycle forward. balance in life is finding that sweet, center spot that keeps us upright and moving along.
As I usually do, I did some research on how and why we need to maintain balance in order to keep pushing ahead in life. I found some pretty interesting facts. Probably the most import one, at least for me, is that in order to be happy and stressfree we must learn to maintain a healthy lifestyle. That doesn't just mean eating healthy and getting regular exercise...those things are super important for sure...but it means enjoying all the good things in life, but in moderation.
You've heard the worn-out phrase, "All work and no play makes jack a dull boy." Turns out that's true, not only for "Jack" but for each of us. You cannot lead a truly fulfilled life by working all the time. Your mental batteries need some recharge time. The flipside of that coin is that too much leisure time isn't healthy either. We need a good balance of both.
All the experts agree that the most important first step to balancing your life, is to decide what things are most important to you. Is it home and family? Is it your career? Perhaps you really enjoy serving others through volunteerism. Is playing a sport or exercising something that you're passionate about? Whether your interests are big, like the ones I mentioned, or smaller like reading, taking up a hobby, or relaxing in front of the TV, it's important to find a way to fit them into your daily routine. Some things may only fit in your schedule a couple of times a week, or only on the weekends. The important thing is to find a time for doing all the things that are imortant to you. Life becomes so much more enjoyable when you know that there's time carved out for you; for you to enjoy all the wonderful things that make you happy. Auntie Mame, in the movie/play by the same name, succinctly stated, "LIfe is a banquet and most people are starving to death." Don't let yourself go hungry. Go ahead, take a bit of of life, enjoy all the flavors, but just remember to keep everything in balance. Just like falling off the proverbial bicycle can hurt, failing to maintain a healthy and well-balanced life can cause us to crash, too. Find your center...and keep peddling!
