      The Frog's Blog

Hi friends. This blog is a labor of love and I want to continue writing every day for a long time to come. But I need a little help. The fees to maintain this website are getting costly for a little frog. If you enjoy reading my blogs, will you please donate a dollar or two, or whatever you can, to help me keep this site (and blog) up and running? I'm on PayPal at irwinquagmirewart@gmail.com. Thank you!

Teachers and moms are a lot alike. This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and Sunday is, of course, Mother's Day. We've all had at least one memorable teacher who inspired us to greatness. But what was it about that teacher who made him/her stand out from all the rest?
I asked a bunch of frogs, and a few humans, what they thought made for a memorable teacher. Here's what they said:
A teacher who is KIND - A great teacher is one who is kind to students, colleagues, and parents. This teacher will inspire kindness in his students. It is said that kindness makes the world go 'round; this is especially true in the classroom. Students want to feel that no matter what happens, their teacher will treat them kindly.
A teacher who is COMPASSIONATE - Teaching is a very humanistic profession; showing compassion for students, as well as their problems and concerns, makes going to class so much more enjoyable. The compassionate teacher shows his/her students, through their own actions, how to be more compassionate towards others. This will, in turn, allow the student to be more open in relation to the world around them.
A teacher who is EMPATHETIC - An empathetic teacher can put him/herself in the shoes of their students. They remember what it's like to be a kid; they are open to seeing things from their perspective. Many teachers forget that their students are children and often won't see the world from an adult perspective. It's so important for teachers to recognize this; to come down to the level of their student without demeaning them.
A teacher who is POSITIVE - A teacher who comes to class everyday with a smile on their face and a positive attive, instills positivity in their students. Every day, teachers are met with loads of problems, and limited solutions, so staying positive is a real challenge. But teachers certainly do help to mold the minds and attidutes of the students in their classroom, and it is o important to show children how to remain positive even in times of adversity. This is a powerful life lesson that will serve them well all through their lives.
A teacher who is a BUILDER - A teacher is builder of bridges; these bridges help to close the gap and strengthen relationships with friends, parents, other teachers, and the community. Teachers can be the peace-keeper in both the school and in the community. Teachers show young students how to overcome differences and get along in he world.
A teacher who INSPIRES -  The teacher who knows how to inspire students is priceless. Without the inspiration of a teacher, most advancements in humankind (and in the frog world) would never have happened. Ask any great person who inspired them and 9 times out of 10, they'll tell you it was a teacher. A great teacher uncovers hidden talents, possibilities, and magic...right before your eyes. An inspiring teacher gives the student the tools necessary to do great things...And instills the belief in them that they can.
And isn't this what moms do, too?
Thank a teacher for their kindness, compassion, and inspiration. They are some of the least appreciated professionals on earth, and the ones who do the most towards making society great.
