As a writer, I was particularly intrigued with today's Thoughtful Thursday quote which reads, "When writing the story of your life, don't let anyone else hold the pen." As I see it, there are several meanings and all are equally important to each one of us.
At it's core, it means that we must be in control of our own life. We each chart our own course and we shouldn't stop until we reach our final destination. We are the captain of our lily pad...or ship; the master of our fate. But if we look at the quote again, we can see the words from their literal meaning..."Don't let anyone else write your story for you." Each of us, frog and human alike, are unique. And because we are all different, we each have our own thing to contribute to the world. That means we must all speak our own truth and not let anyone else put words in our mouths, or thoughts in our brains, that are not our own and not consistent with our core beliefs.
These days, it seems that everyone is trying to put their own spin on things. Everybody's a "spin doctor." And that's to be expected. No two frogs, or humans, see a situation in exactly the same way. But when it comes to being our true selves, it becomes even more important to speak up for those core beliefs that we know are true for us. We cannot let others take away our pen. We must wield our pen and write our own life chapters, not only in terms of the actions we take, but also in how they are recorded in our personal history.

In their ad, the Harley folks added the subheading, "You say you want to ride. Now you say you will. It's time to start something." These are powerful words. There's no time like the present, as they say, to pick up our own pens and start something; to begin authoring the life WE want to have. After all is said and done, it's our story, ours alone, and we can make it as fabulous as we want. And the best part is that it's never too late to begin. As long as we can still hold the pen," we can compose a story that is full of meaning, love, happiness, and security. I know how I want my own story to turn out, and each day I record the words that will propel me towards the future that is mine to create.
