      The Frog's Blog

Hi friends. This blog is a labor of love and I want to continue writing every day for a long time to come. But I need a little help. The fees to maintain this website are getting costly for a little frog. If you enjoy reading my blogs, will you please donate a dollar or two, or whatever you can, to help me keep this site (and blog) up and running? I'm on PayPal at irwinquagmirewart@gmail.com. Thank you!

Sunday, 27 August is a day set aside to do whatever you want...just because. Yep. Sunday is National Just Because Day. And after giving this much thought, I think it'd be a great idea to extend it to the entire weekend, don't you?
Traditionally, it's a day to do whatever we choose, just because we want to. Every day all year long, we find ourselves doing the things that others want us to. On Monday through Friday, we get up and go to work whether we really want to or not. Then come the weekend, we often do the things that our family and friends want to do. For the most part, that's okay; fun even. We simply enjoy spending time with loved ones, no matter what the activity.  But this Sunday is different...the whole weekend if you like my suggestion...is all about YOU. It's a day to change things up without rhyme or reason.
There's a lot research on the benefits of self-love and self care. But this blog isn't about all those admirable traits and qualities.  Yes, they have a necessary place in our daily lives, But this blog is about doing things for yourself for no other reason than they make you happy. So don't sweat the small stuff. It's a day to be spontaneous. Did you see an outfit at the mall you love? Than "just because" is your reason to buy it. maybe you want to use one of your vacation days to go fishing, or golfing. No problem. Just do it! Don't over think things. That's the only rule.
Adults easily find themselves in a rut.  They become boring. Their lives loose that spark of spontaneity. Suddenly doing something, without the usual ton of pre-planning and analyzing, is uncomfortable for most humans. It's that old fear called the unknown. Becoming spontaneous is a skill and, like any other skill, it can be cultivated with practice. I don't know if you've noticed it, but spontaneous people have a sparkle to them. You can see a glint of adventure in their eyes. They don't let special moment pass them by just because they didn't plan for it. These folks know how to live...really live. And what better time to cultivate your spontaneity than on Just Because Day/Weekend?
Don't make a list of things you want to do. Say one thing and just do it. Do you want to sing at the top of your lungs while you're driving? Just do it...put down the window on your car, turn up the volume, and SING! Don;t worry whether it's good or bad. What's important here is to just sing. Feeling generous? Go ahead and pay the tab for the table next to you. Why? Just because you can. You can surprise someone with flowers. Or make something up. The day, or weekend, is yours to feel free and do what you please...with no regrets.
"The benefits of being your most spontaneous self are; keeping your mind sharp, experiencing less stress, finding inspiration anywhere, having to force yourself outside your comfort zone, and allowing yourself to experience beauty you may have never been able to see. If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine. it's lethal!" Sheridan Fidelman
I'm sure you already know how to celebrate this special day; Do something (or several somethings) that is fun and spontaneous this weekend. Now go enjoy your life with no guilt and no regrets. And when posting your weekend pics on your social media, don't forget to use #NationalJustBecauseDay.
See you all back here on Monday!
