      The Frog's Blog

Hi friends. This blog is a labor of love and I want to continue writing every day for a long time to come. But I need a little help. The fees to maintain this website are getting costly for a little frog. If you enjoy reading my blogs, will you please donate a dollar or two, or whatever you can, to help me keep this site (and blog) up and running? I'm on PayPal at irwinquagmirewart@gmail.com. Thank you!

A weekend of tasty foods.

For me, some of the best things about spring, are the variety of farmer's markets that abound this time of year. They bring an abundance of fresh, direct-to-the-consumer, fruits, vegetables, and flowers; along with local, hand-made crafts; home-made breads and preserves; and the best-tasting eggs you've ever had!
These markets are generally free and open to the public. They're a great place to buy good-quality, locally grown foods. I also enjoy meeting, and thanking, the farmers who share the bounty from their wonderful gardens. It's the perfect opportunity to meet up with friends and family for an outing in the fresh air and sunshine.
This weekend, I am attending a local market where my friends and I do a little shopping and, perhaps, pick-up a couple of unique gifts we'll put away for upcoming birthdays and anniversaries. I feel good when I buy things at these markets. Not only am I supporting local artisans when I purchase their wares, but I am supporting the efforts of area farmers when I buy food that is locally sourced and not trucked in from thousands of miles away. I eat better AND help the environment. It's a big win-win all the way around.
After shopping my friends and I will have picnic and enjoy some of purchases. We'll break bread, share cheese and fruit, and top it off with some of the most amazing spring bug jam you'll ever find! It's a great way to spend quality time with the friends I adore.
If you don't already have weekend plans, why not consider attending a farmer's market and then preparing a meal from all that amzing fresh food? This is the kind of meal that is truly fit for a king. I like to say that if it weren't for the farmers, rich people would only have money to eat. Which would rather bite in to, a fresh, ripe tomato right off the vine, or a newly-minted hundred dollar bill? For me, the choice is easy.
Enjoy yourself this weekend, whatever you do. Hope to see you all back here on Monday!
