After all the excesses of Thanksgiving food, Black Friday shopping deals, and Cyber Monday's online savings, isn't it a wonderful idea to have a day of sharing! Giving Tuesday is now in it's 4th year and was started by the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Giving Tuesday was created to bring together "diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving." This is certainly an idea who's time has come. This is a global movement, too, which makes its societal impact even greater. So before we get into the final, and often busy and stressful, weeks before the holidays, this is the perfect time to think about those we cannot, or choose not, to see in our daily lives; the elderly, the homeless, the hungry or sick children, the veterans and, of course, the millions of abused/neglected/homeless animals that abound everywhere in the world.
Whether your donations today are money, time, or inkind...give generously. Your heart will sing and you'll help make this troubled world a better place for all sentient life forms. Mother Teresa once said, "It's not how much we give much how much love we put into giving."
